The Evil Dead
The Evil Dead (1982) was filmed in the late ’70s/early ’80s, mostly on the outskirts of the small rural town of Morristown, Tennessee. When I travelled to the location in March of 2003, the area was still mostly farmland, though it had become semi-rural in the twenty-odd years since Sam Raimi and friends filmed their little low-budget horror movie. Suburban homes surrounded what little remained of the woods where the movie was shot. And the cabin, well, unfortunately the cabin burnt down sometime in the ’80s, and all that remains is the fireplace and part of the chimney.

Standing at the back of where the cabin used to stand, looking out towards the driveway leading to the cabin (just to the left of the chimney, which stands in the middle of the photo)

Standing roughly where the car used in the film (in reality Raimi’s own Oldsmobile Delta 88) would’ve been parked. The front of the cabin would’ve been just past the tree standing in the foreground
Thank you for that fantastic throw-back to years gone-by. I loved Evil Dead and I enjoyed seeing just how creepy the southern woods can be.
Sincerely,
Sean Bingham

Evil Dead is an awesome movie. I saw Evil Dead, “The Musical” and it was hilarious Brett. If it ever appears near your hometown you have to check it out. Oh, sit in the splatter zone 😉
